Brit teenager misses out on £178m EuroMillions prize with every number just one out
An unlucky British teenager just missed out on an enormous £178m EuroMillions jackpot with every one of her numbers just one out.
Tayla Octave, 19, could not believe her bad luck when she checked her lucky dip ticket for last Friday's mega draw.
The marketing apprentice’s numbers were either one too big or one too small for the winning sequence including the Lucky Stars.
She could have been getting ready to pack in the job and buy her family a home with the £178 million.
But she was left with nothing after getting in touching distance of the huge prize.
The winning row of numbers were 04 12 25 46 48 - 07 12 but the teenager from south east London had 05, 13, 24, 45, 49 - 06 11.
Tayla told the Sun: "I'm just gutted. It's a long shot to win the lottery anyway but to be so close is heartbreaking.
"At first I just saw I hadn't won anything but then I went through and compared them side by side and that's when I realised that every single number I had was just one away from the winning ones.
"That sort of money would be life changing and I started to think about what I would have done with it all."
She only started playing the EuroMillions a few weeks ago with her sister.
If she wins, Tayla has dreams of booking a luxury Maldives holiday and buying a family home and helping to tackle homelessness in London.
She did at least come out of the draw with £2.80 thanks to another one of her entries on Friday matching two numbers.
Dr Marton Balazs, Associate Professor in Probability at Bristol University, said the odds of Tayla getting one number away from each winning digit is one in 1,092,486.
He predicted the odds of winning the jackpot at an enormous one in 139,838,160.
